What is Christian Nationalism?

What is Christian Nationalism? A Conversation for Faith Leaders.

What does it mean to call America a “Christian nation,” and what happens when Christian faith, national identity, and public life become closely intertwined?

Christian ethicist Jacob Alan Cook joins us to explore a question many pastors are already navigating but may struggle to name.

Drawing on his work in conflict transformation and congregational life, Cook examines how faithful, sincere Christians can reach sharply different conclusions about faith and public life while still sharing meaningful common ground.

Disagreements that appear impossible to resolve, such as debates over natural law and same-sex marriage, may be genuine, ongoing disputes within the church rather than settled truths that one side simply refuses to accept. Recognizing that distinction changes how pastors lead, especially when members of their own councils and congregations disagree.

This session will give pastors and bishops a clearer framework for understanding what is happening in their congregations and help them guide difficult conversations with honesty and care without cornering, dismissing, or alienating the people they serve.
