A warm welcome to Kathryn Thompson as Campus Minister for LuMin (Lutheran Campus Ministry). Kathryn (she/they) brings exceptional gifts, skills, expertise, and experience which are aligned with the mission, vision, and priorities of LuMin. Kathryn graduated with an M.Div. from Wartburg Seminary in May 2024 and is a candidate for Word and Sacrament ordination. Her ministry with LuMin began Aug. 1st.
Kathryn’s experience in campus ministry at Luther College, in Clinical Pastoral Education residency, in congregational internships, with churchwide youth ministry and education development, and in ten years of experience as a high school English teacher have prepared her well for ministry with the three institutions of higher education in La Crosse (University of Wisconsin—La Crosse, Western Technical College, and Viterbo University). In addition, she is currently serving as co-editor of a newly developed “Queer Confirmation” curriculum.
As a Reconciling in Christ ministry, LuMin has long created and sustained a safe and welcoming space for all and has been a magnet for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Kathryn embodies this commitment and this affirmation, and will bring gifts of vision, innovation, and ability to build relationships in the authentic faith community that is LuMin.
Kathryn lives in La Crosse with her spouse, Sara, and their child, Greta. They are excited to welcome a new child to their family in the coming weeks. Their family loves to explore the outdoors, have dance parties, and eat great food.
