Synod Spotlight: Exploring Celtic Roots

This week, we are highlighting a thoughtful reflection from Pastor Paul Dress on the legacy of St. Patrick and the unique traditions of Irish Christianity.

In a recent online post, Pastor Dress noted: “I’ve long been fascinated by Irish Christianity, especially Irish Monasticism, so I’m a big fan of St. Patrick. His ability to spread the gospel without state force is the way it should be done. His story certainly has its problems, but I think the Celtic Christianity that followed was rather beautiful, if a bit austere in monastic settings.”

It’s a wonderful reminder of how history can inform our modern faith—valuing peaceable evangelism and the "beautiful" (if rigorous) simplicity of the monastic tradition.
