WELCA Global Engagement Travel Series

The Global Engagement travel to Arusha and Meru, Tanzania will bring together junior and senior high school age girls along with their moms, grands, women from their church unit or SWO with an affinity for education, advocating for women and girls, mentorship to experience mentorship in a camp setting at the foot of the majestic Mount Meru.

The mentoring experience is part of African Girls Scholarship and Mentorship Program (AGSMP) created by three ELCA International Women Leaders (global scholarship program) students-Naomi Mbise, Tanzania, Dora Houma and Marina Fomgbami from Cameroon while studying at three different ELCA colleges in isolation during the COVID19 pandemic nationwide shutdown. Our girls and their mentors will participate in the mentoring camp for the scholarship recipients from Tanzania and Cameroon.

Along with the actual camp activities the group will look for examples of mentoring in worship, fellowship, bible study, the marketplace and in nature on safari. We will be practicing accompaniment (coming along side) in community living together women and girls from Women ELCA, the Lutheran in Cameroon and our host the Meru Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.

Your home away from home is the St. Carolous-Guesthouse in Tengeru located in the Meru Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania

Dates: July 11-19, 2025

Cost: $ 3,300 includes: domestic and international airfare, lodging, meals, program and safari. hey take us with them and share what they have seen and heard on their return informing and transforming our global engagement. Individuals must be able to cover the $300 deposit. The WELCA community will pray for the travelers, and hosts and importantly support the engagement program financially.

The host community will prepare a mutually set experience for the travelers and community.

The maximum WELCA delegation is 10. Five girls and five women. WELCA will keep a list once we are at the maximum.
