LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Bishops of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan and the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin have sent out a plea request for a cease-fire for the conflict in the Middle-East.

The request comes at the one year mark of the first attacks that have now  caused nearly 50,000 deaths along with thousands injured.

The cease-fire plea reminds all of the conflict and carnage that has taken place looks to and continue to take place everyday until there is a cease-fire agreement according to one of the bishops that signed the letter.

"Often time we get mired down and deciphering and pulling ourselves apart," La Crosse Area Synod Bishop Felix Malpica said. "And this is an opportunity for us to lift up the need for peace and to see each other with the lens of Gods love."

This is not the first time that the ELCA has sent out a request regarding the war in the Middle-East.

One letter was sent in March 2024 to President Biden requesting a similar plea of a cease-fire for all sides involved.

Besides Bishop Malpica, the bishops of the East Central Synod, Greater Milwaukee Synod, Northern Great Lakes Synod (Michigan), Northwest Synod, and South-Central Synod signed the letter calling for all to work and pray for peace.
